your feet, the sun on your face and an ocean breeze through your
hair........ah, a relaxing day at the beach! Don't you wish you
could take that home with you?
Well....you can!

HAPPY SUMMER EVERYONE!
Welcome to our second issue of "The Artful
Home". Today we are exploring some aspects of enjoying the
coast at home. Coastal geography is more than just the beach; it
incorporates the intercoastal waterways, marshes, sub-tropical gardens
and a myriad of flora that are only found here.
Coastal living is more a state of mind than geography and
anyone can have it....one room or the whole house! Sun-washed color in
lighter tones, neutrals, pickled woods, sea glass colored accents and
coastal art can all be part of the "look".

One Room...Two
Paintings...
Through the magic of the computer, we're are
able to show you some of our artist's works in a room setting...what
fun! Above are photos of the same neutral living room
with different art; on the left the soft monochrome is maintained with
Dana John's lovely coastal marsh landscape, while on the right,
MT McClanahan's painting breaks the sameness with a colorful
trip to the beach.
Paintings:
"Maple Ridge" oil on canvas by Dana Johns,
48x48, $3100
"Dune Path" acrylic on canvas by MT
McClanahan, 48x48, $2670

Mantels as Focal Point

Even on the coast, we enjoy a great fireplace in the
winter time. Whether the decor is traditional, contemporary or
transitional, the fireplace is a natural focal point in a room, so why
not make it really stand out by placing a great painting above it?
In these rooms, the fireplaces are different heights; on the left Curt
Butler's landscape is the perfect foil for balancing the accessories and
on the right, Jacob Cooley's wide horizontal marsh is a great choice for
over a tall mantel.
"Tree Grove" by Curt Butler, encaustic on
canvas, 30x30, $2800
"Wide Tidal Creek" by Jacob Cooley, oil on
canvas, 16x40, $5200

tranquility of these two bedrooms.

Pools" by Paula Holtzclaw, 16x20, oil on canvas, $2000
"Beach Path" by Paula Holtzclaw, 18x14, oil on canvas,

While looking around the internet, we found these
decorating mantras in a book by Marni Jameson. The tips
come from her book titled "House of Havoc: How to Make-and Keep-a Beautiful
Home Despite Cheap Spouses, Messy Kids, and Other Difficult
Roommates"....isn't
that title great?
