Greetings!

Father's Day, graduations and early summer weddings all present a gift-giving dilemma......what can you give to show your love in a special, one-of-a-kind way? Fountainside Gallery has lots of options to solve that problem. Beautiful wildlife and figurative sculpture, tasteful gorgeous paintings, amazingly executed art glass and artist designed jewelry present some dazzling choices.

If the father in your family like fishing, nature, even bird-watching, he'll love the bronze wildlife sculptures of Kim Shaklee. Kim's sculpture is profiled in the July issue of Southwest Art magazine in two different sections. The piece shown on the left is "Moonstruck", a bronze depicting the Great Blues we see daily in our marshes and wetlands. A second bronze of sea turtles featured in the magazine is also in the gallery.

We have new shipments by several of our jewelry artists now in stock; you will be able to see all those online when we launch our updated website in a couple of weeks. The designs are fresh, youthful and would make great graduation gifts. For the newlyweds, or any occasion, a gift certificate can allow the young couple to choose their own originals and our art glass is 15% off during June and July.

FATHER'S DAY IS SUNDAY!

Image Successful wildlife and marine sculptor Kim Shaklee distinguishes herself from other artists by her ability to transform static metal into fluid motion in capturing the essence of an animal. Her balancing of form and negative space even creates an imaginary environment for her subjects.

Kim is a native of Denver, Colorado, but spent her youth at her family's summer home in Estes Park with the rugged beauty and grandeur of the Rockies in her backyard. It was there that she developed a deep appreciation for the natural world and an intense love for wildlife, giving her the platform for her future as a sculptor.

Kim was strongly influenced by her artistic father and her grandfather who was a large animal veterinarian. They helped her define and understand her love for and philosophy of nature in general, and for wildlife and the environment in particular. Combining her life experiences, knowledge and strong artistic abilities and love for creatures of land and sea, Kim has become a skilled wildlife and marine artist.

he works have been shown in many national and international exhibitions, including the Smithsonian National Zoo, the Oklahoma City Zoological Gardens and Benson Park Sculpture Garden, Loveland, Colorado. She has received innumerable awards including the Gold Medal from Allied Artists of America, Best of Show at the Southern Wildlife Festival, the Anna Hyatt Huntington Bronze Medal and the Claude Parsons Memorial Award from the Salamagundi Club in NYC. She has been profiled in several editorial publications including Art of the West, Wildlife Art Magazine, Sporting Classics, InformArt and American Artist Magazine.

SANDY NELSON PAINTING RAISES $15,000 FOR JUVENILE DIABETES FOUNDATION!!

Image During the fifth annual "Hope Gala", (the major fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Triangle/Eastern NC Chapter), an original oil by Sandy Nelson, donated by Fountainside Gallery, sold for an amazing $15,000!

The painting was done specifically with the theme of "Freedom of Imagination" in mind and was also the title for the painting. The theme was to exemplify the goals of the JDRF to help young diabetes patients imagine the day when they would be free of the condition. The painting allowed the Foundation to realize a $100,000 increase over their fund-raising the year before. The JDRF has, since 1970, directed more than $1.16 billion in research grants for diabetes study to the world's leading laboratories, universities and medical centers. Fountainside Gallery is extremely proud to have been a part of this great effort!
